The Peugeot Onyx Concept – a hybrid supercar concept – is heading for Paris 2012 and we now have more details. On Monday, we got the first news of the Peugeot Onyx Supercar concept that is heading for the 2012 Paris Motor show and designed to show that Peugeot are a long way from down and out. The first news of the Onyx was a teaser photo of it in Peugeot’s Facebook page, but a bit of digging a round on French cars sites yielded some additional information – and the Onyx name – and we subsequently updated that story with more photos of the Onyx.
Janet Gutherie, the first woman to race in the Indianapolis 500, said overcoming the numerous hurdles set before her as she tried to forge a racing career was something that she just had to do. “I wanted it so much,” Gutherie said during a seminar at the 16th Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance on Friday, “I was willing to put up with whatever they would throw at me.”
AutoWeek's own Denise McCluggage, a renowned racer in her own right, was also part of the Women in Racing panel discussion that also included racers Judy Stropus, Erin Crocker, Jessica Brunelli and Lynn St. James.
Tucked away on page nine of the May 9, 1964 issue of Competition Press and Autoweek is an intriguing little story: “FIA Rejects Ford Bid for Homolgation [sic].”
At the time, the Mustang had just made its world debut, but Ford was already scheming to fold the car into its “Total Performance” campaign. The automaker apparently proposed to do so with a fleet of crazy fiberglass-bodied touring cars. According to Competition Press, Ford tried to get the new Mustang classified as a touring car for international racing.
